This module aims to introduce Level 4 students to the principles and practices of Human Resource Management (HRM) within contemporary organisations. The module provides a foundation for understanding how people are managed at work and how HRM contributes to organisational effectiveness in both domestic and international contexts. Students will develop an appreciation of key HR functions, the employment relationship, and the ethical and professional responsibilities of HR managers.

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. Describe the purpose, role, and importance of Human Resource Management in organisations.
  2. Explain key HRM functions including resourcing, learning and development, performance management, and reward.
  3. Identify the influence of external factors such as legislation, labour markets, and globalisation on HRM practices.
  4. Apply basic HRM concepts and frameworks to workplace scenarios and people management issues.
